May 16 Sunday

After watching weather reports yo-yo from good to bad to good it looked like I might get out and do some fishing today. I headed out with intentions of doing a little exploratory boating and check out a few new spots. First on the agenda was the Rockpile at 42.21.6 x 70.27.9. seen here in the inset Southwest of Northern Stellwagen. Upon arrival it was evident that     the structure was clearly marked with moorings for Tuna Fisherman. I set up on the South East mooring and fished a bit without success. The bottom felt muddy so I changed to the North West mooring and that made all the difference. Mixed scrod and market Cod were abundant.

I would say the highlight of the trip was when the wind increased and a small bird took refuge in my boat for a while to rest it's wings. I snapped a few shots of him for the log and later was able to identify the bird as a Common Yellowthroat.

The 25 mph wind was enough to terminate the fishing and was back at the dock just after noon.
