This morning Jack and Wendell from Connecticut showed up ready
to fish. They made their early morning journey with a fair
weather forecast in their favor. However upon reviewing the
obvious wind conditions it seemed better to play out the day in
close and try for a Bass or two. Nothing seemed to work for us
and we were burning daylight! A break in the wind
presented an opportunity to make a run for Compass Rose Bank
some 17 miles from our start. The
conditions were favorable for the run out but started to
deteriorate upon arrival 2.5 miles from the center so I set up
shop right there hoping it would all come together. Jackpot!
More Rosefish than I have ever encountered.
One
hour on the spot proved to be enough time to boat enough fish to
put a smile on our face. 20 reds and eight Cod between 6 and 30
pounds. With seas building and a South wind showing no signs of
letting up we headed in slow and easy with the wind behind us. A
few hours back at the dock proved that it was a wise decision as
the South wind steadily increased and sea conditions continued
to deteriorate. Later in the evening A panfull of batter fried
redfish fillets convinced me that the Redfish were a speices
well worth pursuing. The center point of Compass Rose Bank can be
